Bailey Architecture had been using 2D AutoCAD design tools. These are both time consuming and outdated, but due to a lack of training and knowledge of the available technologies, the company was unable to provide a higher quality service to clients. Also, the company was aware that Business Information Modelling (BIM) software enabling multiple client participation was becoming the industry standard, in particular with larger public sector projects.
Northern Regional College developed a tailored upskilling programme designed to equip participants with essential Building Information Modelling (BIM) skills. The programme covers BIM theory, new industry standards and protocols, and provides an introduction to a range of BIM-compatible software, including Revit. Participants learn to develop basic building models tailored to specific project needs, integrate structural elements and building services components, and apply techniques such as clash detection and quantity extraction.
By completing this programme, Bailey Architecture has achieved higher productivity, due to easy retrieval and sharing of information, such as vendor details, specific component materials, details and quantities required for estimation and tender purposes. This has helped to drive efficiencies within the business, and there has also been an improvement in delivery, which has reduced costs
Bailey Architecture now has an automated assembly process, with data now digitized to be shared easily with both customer and professionals working on individual building projects. This has improved customer service and communication processes.
The use of this new Revit software and BIM way of working will be a radical innovation in operations and I will be able to give customers an improved service by letting them understand their projects better. The increase in knowledge in the area of BIM will help me to procure business (public sector in particular) and will allow me to manage design and production information production better.
