| Qualification | Description |
|---|---|
| Full Traineeship Diploma | If you complete qualifications equivalent to five GCSEs at Grade C passes including English (or Communications Level 2) and maths (or Application of Number Level 2) you will receive a full NI Traineeship Diploma. |
| Traineeship Certificate | If you complete qualifications but fall short in one or two of the categories such as achieving level 1 essential skills, you may receive a NI Traineeship Certificate. |
| Partial Achievement | If you do not achieve all of the components you will receive a partial achievement. This may mean that you achieved the professional and technical qualification but did not meet the requirements of the work placement or the Transversal skills component. You may still be able to progress to Level 3 Further Education. |

Work-based learning is the term that is used to refer to courses, such as Traineeships and Apprenticeships, that provide you real-life work experiences whilst applying academic and technical skills to enhance your employment opportunities.

The majority of NI Traineeships will typically take up to two years to complete on a full-time basis. Some NI Traineeships take one year to complete:

If you achieve qualifications during the first year you may be able to progress to an apprenticeship or further education earlier.
Trainees who secure employment, in their chosen occupational area, during their traineeship can transfer seamlessly to Apprenticeship Level 2. As an apprentice, if you become unemployed during your apprenticeship, you can transfer onto a Traineeship to complete your programme. Find out some tips on how to secure an employer.
On completion of the NI Traineeship, you can progress within the College to a Level 3 further education course or a Level 3 Apprenticeship (possibly with your work placement employer). This can lead to Higher Education options.

You will receive free Health and Safety Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
If you are aged between 16-19 years-old, you could get £30 per week (this is means tested). Full attendance is required. Bonuses are also payable on the achievement of qualifications. EMA Application forms are available
You can apply for a FE Grant which is means tested and non-repayable. Apply by 30 June to guarantee support.
Hardship Fund If you are age 18 years-old or over on 1 July before the start of the academic year and experiencing from financial hardship you may be eligible for financial assistance.
If required, the College may provide IT equipment.
If you are under 19 years-old on 1 July before the start of the academic year, studying a full-time Traineeship and live at least 3 miles from your nearest College, you can apply for a pass through the Education Authority (EA).
You will be reimbursed for your travel costs to your work placement.
If you are under 18 years-old at 31 July before the start of the academic year and meet the criteria, you may be entitled to free school meals. Applications must be made by your parent or guardian to the Education Authority.
Pastoral Care College staff will provide you with support throughout your Traineeship.

The lecturers at the College are great and have an open-minded and individual approach to their students. They helped me realise that, even though I had left school 20 years ago, I could still do it.

I chose the Level 3 course after attending an open night, where I spoke to lecturers about the different career paths available. I was finishing Year 12 and wasn’t totally set on returning to sixth form. The course opened my eyes to a new direction.
