Successful students automatically progress to the second year of the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma.
This course is very practically orientated and students will develop their knowledge and professional skills through work realistic projects and practical sessions.
The main modules of study are:
Plus a further 6 optional units (Optional units are subject to change dependant on industrial need)
If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.
Field trips and visits from professional from the construction industry are components of the course where possible. A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma is an excellent alternative to A-levels for those students who wish to pursue a career in the Built Environment professions.
Assessment is continuous and based on work realistic projects. Assessment includes a combination of coursework and examination. Typical projects include the design of architecture concepts, development proposals and feasibility studies for a variety of developments. Computer technology is integrated throughout the course e.g. Computer Aided Design.
This course is an ideal route for those young people who wish to progress to Honours Degree at University or Foundation Degress in Building Technology in:
Over 95% of students progress to higher level courses. The course is highly regarded as an entrance qualification by both Universities in Northern Ireland and also those in Scotland and England where many past students have been very successful and are now pursuing professional careers.
As an alternative to going to University students can progress to Ulster University validated Foundation Degree in Building Technology and Management at either the Coleraine or Farm Lodge Campus.
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on or before 1 July in the year of proposed entry to the course and should have 4 GCSEs at Grades C or above or other relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 BTEC Diploma or similar qualification. It is desirable that this includes a grade C or above in both GCSE Mathematics & English.
This course is free of charge.
Further Education (Level 1-3) full-time courses including Apprenticeships have no course fees for most students:
Level 3 Further Education (full-time)
There are no tuition fees for Level 1 - 3 full-time students aged between 16 and 18.
If you are aged 19-24 and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification, fees will apply. Details of fees are available from any campus reception.
If you are aged 25 or older, fees will apply unless in receipt of a FE grant. (If you are aged 25 or older, admission to a full-time Further Education course will be considered on an individual basis at the College's discretion).
Level 3 Access Courses (full-time)
If you are in receipt of a FE grant, no fees apply.
If you are aged 19 or older and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification (3 A Level equivalent), fees will apply.
