This course aims to help you develop a wide range of music skills, allowing you to become a versatile artist who can self-produce, compose, and perform, or a producer with the technical ability to engineer music and play instruments when needed.

Throughout the course, you will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment, taught by professionals in the field. You will regularly work with top-tier gear, including:

  • Nord Stage 3 Keyboard – A versatile keyboard with expansive sound design options
  • Gretsch Brooklyn Drum Kit – A durable kit with a warm, balanced tone
  • Roland TD-1 Electronic Drum Kit – A chance to explore electronic rhythms and percussion
  • Allen and Heath SQ7 – A high-performance digital mixing desk
  • iMacs – Latest iMacs with powerful RAM and processing speeds for music production
  • Kawai Baby Grand Piano – Rich, resonant acoustic sound for recording and performance
  • Traktor Kontrol S8 – Professional-grade DJ controllers for mixing, remixing, and live performance
  • Neumann U87 – Industry-standard condenser microphone
  • Shure SM57 + SM58 – Versatile microphones for both live performance and multitracking
  • Guitar/Bass Amplifiers – Explore different sonic and aesthetic options with a range of amplifiers, including both digital and analogue models

All modules are assessed through coursework, including written blogs, presentations, performances, and compositional portfolios.

Over two years, you’ll gain hands-on experience in both the creative and technical sides of music, from creating and performing your own material to recording and producing in a professional studio. With access to our state-of-the-art facilities and industry-standard software, including Apple Logic Pro, ProTools, and Ableton, you’ll be equipped to take your music to the next level. Plus, you'll have the chance to showcase your talents at our newly restored St. Patrick's Centre, a professional venue where you can perform for live audiences.

This course blends practical skills with theoretical knowledge, ensuring you leave with a strong foundation in music production, performance, and the business of music. Whether you’re looking to jumpstart your career in the industry or continue your studies at a higher level, this course will give you the tools and experience to succeed.

Directly into the music industry as a producer / performer, or continue on to a related university degree

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on or before 1 July in the year of proposed entry to the course and have at least 4 GCSEs at Grades C or above plus demonstrable a interest in music, performance and/or production.  

Course Fees

This course is free of charge.

Further Education (Level 1-3) full-time courses including Apprenticeships have no course fees for most students:

Level 3 Further Education (full-time)

There are no tuition fees for Level 1 - 3 full-time students aged between 16 and 18.

If you are aged 19-24 and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification, fees will apply. Details of fees are available from any campus reception.

If you are aged 25 or older, fees will apply unless in receipt of a FE grant. (If you are aged 25 or older, admission to a full-time Further Education course will be considered on an individual basis at the College's discretion).

Level 3 Access Courses (full-time)

If you are in receipt of a FE grant, no fees apply.

If you are aged 19 or older and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification (3 A Level equivalent), fees will apply.
