Work placement is mandatory to complete full qualifications.

It will be assessed by your lecturer and/or assessor using a range of methods. This will include direct observation in the workplace, an online portfolio of evidence and written assignments, other evidence gathering methods may also be used.  Students will be required to undertake work placement.

During the 1 year full-time course Learners will complete three qualifications to prepare them for the world of work or higher/further education study.

You will Study:

  • Level 2 Youth Work Practice
  • Level 2 in Community Relations, Equality and Diversity in Youth Work
  • Level 3 Youth Work Practice

The OCN NI Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice qualification enables progression to further learning in this sector including higher education courses. It may also contribute to further employment opportunities within the youth work sector.  You can also progress to Ulster University to study the Level 4 Community Youth Studies Certificate.

You must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over on or before 1 July in the year proposed entry to the course.
  • Be currently working or prepared to volunteer within a youth work context and have opportunity to deliver a group work programme.
  • Satisfy Access NI checks   

In the event of oversubscription, the College will use the enhanced criteria:

  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above in preference to Essential Skills.
  • Date of application and order of preference. 

Course Fees

This course is free of charge.

Further Education (Level 1-3) full-time courses including Apprenticeships have no course fees for most students:

Level 3 Further Education (full-time)

There are no tuition fees for Level 1 - 3 full-time students aged between 16 and 18.

If you are aged 19-24 and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification, fees will apply. Details of fees are available from any campus reception.

If you are aged 25 or older, fees will apply unless in receipt of a FE grant. (If you are aged 25 or older, admission to a full-time Further Education course will be considered on an individual basis at the College's discretion).

Level 3 Access Courses (full-time)

If you are in receipt of a FE grant, no fees apply.

If you are aged 19 or older and have already achieved a Level 3 qualification (3 A Level equivalent), fees will apply.
