The qualification provides vocational learning opportunities for learners to develop their hospitality and tourism skills while working in a range of establishments, for example, bars, restaurants, cafes, conference centres, banqueting venues, hotels, contract caterers, tourist information centres and visitor attractions. Learners will not only develop practical skills enabling them to access the workplace immediately, but the course will also help them make informed decisions about their future career choices.  This is an excellent programme where you will gain many sought after skills and confidence while working in a busy environment.

The objectives of the OCN NI Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality will enable learners to gain skills and knowledge relation to the following: -

Core

  • Food and beverage skills
  • Accommodation service skills
  • Tourism skills

Optional

  • Food safety
  • Food allergy awareness
  • Customer service for Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism
  • Teamwork skills
  • Using effective communication
  • Using problem solving
  • Processing Payments
  • Promote additional services and products to customers
  • Dealing with customer queries, requests and problems
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation.

On completion of the Traineeship, you can progress to a Level 3 further education course or a Level 2 or 3 Apprenticeship (possibly with your work placement employer).  This can lead you to Higher Education options.

You must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age on or before 1 July in the year of proposed entry to the course.
  • Have a minimum of a Level 1 qualification defined as 4 GCSEs at grades D-G including Maths and English grades D-F or equivalent. However, most areas will require higher grades in Maths and English.  See our Traineeship page for specific grades for each vocational area.
  • Attend an information session.
